Sommer am Bosporus
German Crime Fiction Prize 2006
It is yearning that lets Andreas Leuchtenberg travel to Istanbul to find the love of his teenage days, a Turkish girl named Sevin. She lived in his street and was a princess – both a bandit´s princess and a princess from the old oriental tales. But their love ended before it began, because he denied her, when his buddies called her names.
When he incidentally learns, that she now lives in Istanbul, organizing fashion shows, he decides to fly to Turkey to find her. During his search, he drifts through the city and trails off in the metropolis with the mysterious atmoshpere. He gets to know Old-Istanbul, the European and the Oriental parts, experiences Turkish hospitality, sees famous bazars and buildings – everything that Sevin had told him about in former days…
Wolfgang Schorlau has written an entertaining novel full of aspiration, set in Turkey, the country that combines Orient and Occident. An unwinding and culturally inspiring read for a beach vacation!
